Amigurumi Owl

Pattern by: Kaitlyn

Here’s the pattern that was voted for in the Crochet Pattern Poll I posted earlier. There was actually a tie between the Cross-Stitch Dishcloth and this pattern, but I decided to do this pattern. If you would like me to post the Cross-Stitch Dishcloth pattern, leave a comment below. This tiny owl is about 2.5 inches tall. It can be used as a keychain or just a little friend for the young and young at heart in your life. I hope you have as much fun making it as I did!

Materials:

  • size US E/4 or 3.5mm crochet hook
  • sport weight (category 2) yarn… main color, MC — contrasting color, CC
  • worsted weight (category 4) yarn… black (for the eyes) — orange or yellow (for the beak and feet)
  • scissors
  • yarn needle
  • small amount of stuffing
  • keyring (optional)

Let’s get started…

Body and Head, with MC

  1. ch 3, 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st to first hdc (10 sts in this round)
  2. ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to first hdc (20 sts in this round)
  3. ch 1, hdc around, sl st to first hdc (20 sts in this round)
  4. repeat step 3 for 6 more rounds (7 rounds total)
  5. stuff the body
  6. ch 1, hdc2tog around, sl st to first hdc (10 sts in this round)
  7. ch 1, hdc2tog around, sl st to first hdc (__ sts around)
  8. fasten off and weave in ends

Wings, with CC (make 2)

  1. ch 6
  2. hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc 2, 5 hdc in next st
  3. working along other side of chain, hdc  2, 4 hdc in next st, sl st to first hdc (14 sts around)
  4. fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing, weave in beginning tail

Feet, with orange or yellow worsted weight yarn and same hook (make 2)

  1. ch 5, sl st to first ch
  2. fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing, weave in beginning tail

Ears (optional) (make 2)

Cut two 4 inch pieces of yarn from MC, and the same amount and leangth from CC. Lay the pieces together and fold in half. Stick your crochet hook through the top of the top corner of the Body and Head and pull the folded pieces of yarn halfway through. Reach your crochet hook through the loop and pull all of the strands through. Pull tight and trim the pieces of yarn to your desired length.

Finishing ( use photos below for placement of pieces and embroidery)

Sew wings and feet onto the Head and Body, embroider eyes (black worsted weight yarn) and a beak (orange or yellow worsted weight yarn) onto the head portion of the Body and Head, and attach keyring to the top of the Head and Body (or you can leave the key ring off and use the little owl as a toy).

If you have any questions concerning this pattern, please leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Have fun crocheting! Here are some pictures of my owl:
